Thanks again to House of Harley!
For my 50th birthday, I decided to ride a Harley in all 50 states. I guess it's fitting that I'd ride in our 50th state first, and my favorite place on earth. It was a great joy to be able to ride with my son in Hawaii to start off my trip. I look forward to sharing my experiences over the next month as I travel through the greatest country on earth, on the greatest motorcycle on earth.

House of Harley Anchorage
I want to give a special thanks to the guys at the House of Harley in Anchorage. Since I couldn't find a Harley to rent in Alaska, Tommy and I had to take our ride to Seward on BMW's. The guys at House of Harley were good enough to let me take a short spin on one of their new 2010 Fat Boys. What a beautiful bike, and I'm relieved to have fulfilled my goal of driving a Harley...and not just any motorcycle.
Thanks again to House of Harley!

Alaska
Welcome to Alaska!
I'd rather ride a bike than a dog sled...
A nice view of Exit Glacier.
Well, I can check off the 50th and 49th states to join America. After 288 miles in Alaska, I can say with confidence that this is one of the most beautiful states in the USA.
Tommy and I headed out from Anchorage to Seward, a small fishing village 120 miles south of Anchorage. Along the way we saw some amazing sights: waterfalls, mountains, rivers, bays, and a lot of snow. We were blessed by great weather, it was in the 50's to 60's and dry. In Seward we had lunch at a great waterfront restaurant called Ray's and enjoyed fresh Alaskan King Crab. After lunch and a walk along the waterfront, we took a side trip to Exit Glacier. This is one of the few places in the world you can drive up close to a glacier and walk out on it. Overall, a great day and the fact that I got to share it with my son made it even more special.

Hawaii
The start, mom and dad's house in Puamana. The greatest place on earth.
Tommy overlooking a village, with Julia's banana bread, the best ever!
At the highest point in Hawaii
A beautiful view, just above the clouds.
Hawaii was a great place to ride. Tommy and I rode around the West Maui mountains then rode to the top of Haleakela crater. In total, the first day of my journey was about 120 miles of pure paradise.
