All about Harley

Well, the best laid plans...you know how it ends. The ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee was sold out by the time we tried to buy tickets, so we had to drive around the lake. Not so bad, except for Chicago. Who wants to drive through Chicago? To make things a little worse, it started raining just as we were approaching Chicago. Nice traffic! Besides that little adventure, it was a tremendous day. The weather was outstanding and highway 94 is a great road, although I don't think I've figured out how states can charge you to drive on a federal interstate???

Anyway, what a day. We headed out from Kalamazoo this morning on 94 and passed through Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and in to Wisconsin. Staying on 94 we drove up to Milwaukee for a visit to the Harley Davidson Museum. What a trip. It's worth a visit if you ever get close enough. We saw "vin number 1" the oldest Harley on the planet as well as ton's of other vintage Harley's. What a history. They played such a significant role in industry, sports and in the military during world war two. It was very cool to see such a rich heritage and to be driving one of their 100th anniversary models! The ride getting there, except for the rain and traffic, was uneventful. Unfortunately, interstate 94 is just far enough away from the shores of the Great Lakes so you can't see them as you are traveling. It's a nice road, but pretty normal highway scenery.

When we were done at the Harley Museum, I decided to split off from DeeDee and Robert so I could put in a couple hundred miles and a few more states. I didn't want them to have to do some hard riding just so I could check off some states. They headed south toward's St. Louis and I headed east towards La Crosse. I've got to say that Wisconsin just went WAY up on my list of outstanding states. It has the most beautiful farm land I've ever seen. It's not the flat plain farm land I'm used to seeing in the middle of the United States, it's rolling hills with green upon green upon green. I'm not sure how much rain they get every year, but this is some of the most lush, fertile landscape I've ever seen. It's dotted with grain silo's, farm building and the occasional lake or river. What a beautiful landscape. I tried to take several pictures, but they never do the beauty justice. You'll just have to come visit yourself...on a Harley of course.

I made it to La Crosse and actually crossed the boarder into Minnesota, but after driving for several miles realized that there were not going to be any hotels...so I had to turn around and go back to La Crosse for the night. The weather after leaving the Harley Museum was some of the best of the trip so far. It's been unbelievably hot on the east coast, but this afternoon was just a joy. It was perfect Harley weather, cooler with hight light clouds. What a perfect day to ride! Wish you all could have been out here with me. Hope you enjoy the blog. Not sure if anyone is reading it, but I enjoy writing it.

Blessings and good night.

I enjoyed a really nice sun set from my room in La Crosse overlooking the upper Mississippi. Kinda sad to be enjoying this alone.

  1. Too bad you missed the Ferry ride. It is a great ride and sure beats the drive around the lake! Head West young man! Keep safe.
