I was albe to drive past some great historical monuments, like "the White House of the Confederacy" and Auburn University (roll tide). But, no time to stop. I flew through states as fast as I could. Headed to Atlanta after Montgomery, then to Greenville, SC, then Ashville, NC then north all the way to West Virginia. In all I drove through Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky and I'm staying the night in West Virginia. I drove a total of 817 miles in 15 1/2 hours. Almost 1,600 miles in two days...
I do want to mention a couple of highlight. The tree lined highways in Alabama and Georgia are just spectacular. Although I could do with out going through Atlanta...yuck. Everything from Ashville north is just about as beautiful as you can possibly imagine. Driving through the Appalachian Mountains is something everyone should do. The entire drive from Ashville to Huntington, West Virginia was just amazing. By the way, I didn't know this until I stopped, but Huntington is the place where "we are Marshall" happened. Marshall University is just a few miles from my hotel, the plane went down just a few miles away and they filmed the movie here.
I do want to give my apologies to all my friends I did not stop to see today...and those in advance that I'll miss as I blow through states. I need to say I'm sorry to Renae in Alabama, Amanda in Georgia, as well as Steve and Susan in Georgia and Chuck in South Carolina. Sorry guys...if you read my blog...that I just could not stop. I've got to get the Maine by Sunday in order to meet my brother in law and a group that is going to drive route 66.
Alright, enough words...here's a few pictures:
This is my motto shirt for the ride. Picked out for me by my son...seems fitting.
The first "new state" crossing of the day.
Good bye fog...hello sunshine.
